An event that haunts you most of your adult life…………

You could come into work staggering drunk. Letting everyone know how fucked up you are and being too fucked up to realize you most likely shouldn’t be saying the work fuck in an office setting. 

The terrible lighting may have made your face look chubby and pale and all BUT enhanced your wrinkly unwashed uniform and your rat nest of hair.

The liquor getting the best of you? An understatement. Vodka and tequila running through your veins at eight in the morning there was absolutely no excuse for you.

You reflect on your pointless existence as you, hypothetically, carry out all of your belongings.

You start to cry you figure that is better than trying to pretend this situation was someone else’s fault. 

[Two weeks later]

You take that day of complete embarrassment and misery and turn to the next page of your life.

You might decide to quit drinking, to let the foggy cloud around your ambition fall with a swift slice of your own will.

You may have also decided that desk jobs aren’t for you. Maybe your voice carries too loud, maybe your joyful attitude was just too much, you just weren’t what they wanted you to be. Or maybe you are just being too hard on yourself.

The sobriety isn’t helping the hypothetical nightmares of self sabotage.

Then it all comes to you. The best way to let something go is to be in control of it. You may have been out of control the entire time while you were getting the life sucked out of you by overbearing management. You may have been out of control when you used a controlled substance to curb your annoyance, lack of motivation and unhappiness. But now, now you are in control. 

You go to the post office you buy a bubble wrap envelope you slip in music that you know your old boss likes. In the From section your refrain from putting your real name….because this isn’t about getting credit for a good deed or getting a raise or some shit. This is for you.

You wrap the CD in a piece of notebook paper that says “NEVER GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAMS.” Your bosses dream? To be a college professor and you think he could do it. This is not only a mantra for him though, this is a mantra for yourself.

Never give up on your dreams.

P.S. Yes I am talking about myself and yes this happened to me.
